Mould Remediation in Social Housing

Mould is a widespread issue in council housing across the UK. Easy Coatings were commissioned by Kettering Council to address persistent mould problems in several social housing properties.

Our team carried out a detailed assessment of the affected walls in each property. Any wallpaper, paint, or damaged surfaces were carefully stripped, ensuring a stable and clean substrate for the internal cork coating system. The walls were then primed to provide optimal adhesion for the cork treatment.

We applied three coats of spray applied cork to each property’s walls. This specialist internal cork system is highly effective at preventing mould and condensation, while also improving thermal performance.

One of the main benefits for social housing and council properties is that cork coating requires minimal changes to electrics, plumbing, or fixtures. Unlike traditional insulation systems, which often involve removing or relocating radiators, wiring, and pipework, cork can be applied directly to prepared walls.

After the cork coating was applied, walls were plastered and painted, creating a healthy, comfortable, and visually appealing living environment.

The internal cork coating system provides long term mould eradication for council and social housing properties, delivering effective internal wall insulation without major disruption to existing electrics or plumbing. It improves thermal efficiency and indoor air quality while offering a cost effective alternative to traditional insulation systems or full wall replacement, with a safe and fast installation process that is suitable for occupied council homes.

FAQs

FAQs

Internal cork coating is a spray applied natural cork system used on internal walls to reduce condensation, prevent mould growth, and improve thermal performance. It works by increasing wall surface temperature and regulating humidity.

Mould forms when condensation settles on cold surfaces. Cork coating reduces cold spots by improving insulation and breathability, helping prevent condensation and therefore eliminating the conditions that cause mould.

Yes, a cork coating is ideally suited to social housing and council properties because it can be applied in occupied homes with minimal disruption and without major alterations to services.

Yes, unlike traditional internal wall insulation, our cork coating does not require invasive construction works, reducing risk, disruption, and health & safety concerns in occupied homes.

Yes, a cork coating improves thermal efficiency by increasing internal wall surface temperatures, helping to reduce heat loss, cold bridging, and internal condensation.

No, for best results, affected wallpaper, paint, and damaged finishes are removed to create a stable surface before the cork coating is applied. This ensures optimal adhesion and performance.
